iCloud Next
Quelloffen (MIT). Home Assistant integration for Apple iCloud: Find My with active locating, a location per person, iCloud storage usage and serial number / OS version of your devices. Open source (MIT).
Warum? Why?
Since Home Assistant 2026.2 the official iCloud integration only reads Apple's location cache on its polls. Battery levels are current, but locations are often hours old. When the Apple session expires, it also gets stuck in an error state instead of asking you to sign in again. iCloud Next triggers an active locate request on every poll, reads the result 30 seconds later and reports an expired session as a repair.
Funktionen Features
- Active locating on every poll, per device with location timestamp, “outdated” flag and position source (Wi-Fi/GPS).
- Location per person: the first device with a fresh location in the order iPhone → Apple Watch → iPad, so a watch charging at home does not override the iPhone being carried.
- Two-factor authentication with a choice between push to your Apple devices and SMS. The code is only requested after you choose; codes are never sent unprompted.
- Messages and Find My sound: a notify entity per device for Find My's “display message”, optionally with sound, plus a button for the Find My sound.
- iCloud storage: used, total, free and percent, per category (photos, backups, documents, mail, messages) and per family member, with “almost full” and “exceeded” warnings.
- Device info: operating system, serial number and OS version for devices of your own account, including those without Find My such as Apple TV.
- Family optional, chosen during setup and later in the options.
- Its own session next to the official integration, without touching its sign-in.
Voraussetzungen & Grenzen Requirements & limitations
- An Apple ID with two-factor authentication via push or SMS. Accounts that require a hardware security key (FIDO2) are not supported.
- Locate interval 5 to 120 minutes, default 15. Every poll wakes up location services on all devices; shorter intervals cost battery.
- Read-only apart from messages and the Find My sound: no lost mode, no erase.
- Apple only reports serial number and OS version for devices of your own account, with the serial number masked.

The integration runs inside your own Home Assistant instance and talks only to Apple's iCloud services – with your Apple ID. The session is kept locally in Home Assistant's storage folder. From Apple's device lists only the serial number is kept; IMEI, UDID and payment methods are discarded. There is no server of mine that receives data. This project is not affiliated with Apple; iCloud and Find My are trademarks of Apple Inc.
